In today’s episode, we’ll be chatting about finding your freelance niche.

Work On A Topic You Love

Time is money. One of the hardest things to do is work on a topic you hate. When you work on a topic you hate, you drag your feet on completing assignments. If you are working on a topic you can get engrossed in, the time you spend will fly by.

What’s Going To Pay You Well

At the intersection between a topic you love and what’s going to pay you well is the perfect freelance niche. Freelancing isn’t free, so you have to focus on topics that make money. For example, I love talking about career topics too, but they don’t always pay fantastic since the focus is usually on candidates. When I write HR content, I am speaking to HR professionals or people who make purchasing decisions on the type of software their companies buy. Since software can be expensive, I can charge more.

Figure Out Who Is Going To Pay You For It

If you love a topic, it’s your job to figure out who will pay you more for it. For example, if you want to write about parenting, figure out who is going to charge you the right rate for that. You could go after a parenting blogger, but they might not make enough to pay you what you’re worth. Instead, you could go after a crib or diaper bag company that wants to create parenting content that resonates with their ideal audience. Your content brings people to their website so that the parent can check out a fun crib or diaper bag for their baby.
